Why We Love Giocoso: Montréal-Made Fragrances for Everyday Rituals

At Confetti Mill, we have a soft spot for objects that make everyday moments feel special. A linen napkin at breakfast, a favourite throw on the sofa, a candle lit as the evening begins. Giocoso fits naturally into that world.

Made by hand in Montréal, Giocoso’s candles, room sprays and reed diffusers bring another layer to the home: scent. Here’s what we love about them.

Sharing our space with local makers

One of the things I love most about Confetti Mill is sharing our space with other local makers. Having a shop means I can offer a place for their work to be discovered, especially when they don’t have a storefront of their own or a long list of stockists.

We now carry around 40 local brands, and Giocoso is one I’m happy to have alongside the pieces we make in our Montréal workshop. Behind each brand is someone creating, experimenting and putting a lot of themselves into their work. I love being able to introduce that work to you.

The creativity behind the brand

Giocoso is the creation of Viviane, a Montréal maker who also works as a graphic designer. Wanting to explore a more tactile creative practice, she studied perfumery with the Experimental Perfume Club and began experimenting with concrete casting and candle making.

We especially love that she created Giocoso’s branding herself. Her eye for design carries through the whole collection, connecting the fragrances, packaging and visual identity. It makes the brand feel personal, with the maker’s creativity present in every detail.

Scents with character

What drew us to Giocoso is the unexpected way its fragrances come together. These are scents with different facets: fresh and warm, fruity and woody, floral and gourmand.

Roman Holiday pairs espresso with orange blossom and pralines. Inspired by dolce far niente, the sweetness of doing nothing, it evokes the pleasure of taking your time over a coffee. Discover it as a Roman Holiday scented candle or a Roman Holiday room and linen spray.

Frankie Say Relax brings a different mood. Pine, fir needles and eucalyptus meet warm wood and embers—a little forest cabin, a little spa.

Then there’s Cherry Colored Funk, with juicy cherry, orange and a hint of whisky over a woody base. And Mellow Yellow, whose soft florals, sandalwood, honey and amber feel made for an evening with your favourite album.

Rose Apothecary brings together rose, bergamot, fig and cedarwood, with warm, earthy notes underneath. Floral and woody, it’s another lovely example of the balance we enjoy in Giocoso’s fragrances.

Each has its own personality. Choosing one is part of the pleasure.

Understanding fragrance notes

Fragrance descriptions can sometimes feel like a language of their own. What do “top,” “heart” and “base” notes actually mean?

• Top notes create the first impression.
• Heart notes give the fragrance its main character.
• Base notes provide depth and tend to linger longest.

This structure helps describe how a fragrance is composed. The notes overlap, though, and may come across differently in a candle, spray or diffuser.

In Rose Apothecary, for example, rose petals and bergamot bring freshness, fig and cedarwood shape the heart, and tonka, wild moss and earthy notes add warmth. You don’t need to identify every ingredient to enjoy it—the notes simply help you imagine the scent before choosing.

A format for different moments

We appreciate being able to enjoy a favourite fragrance in a way that suits our everyday routines.

A scented candle brings fragrance and the gentle light of a flame to an evening at home. Giocoso’s 8 oz candles use a natural soy and coconut wax blend, an FSC-certified wood wick and a reusable glass jar, with approximately 50 hours of burn time. Pair yours with our matches in a corked glass vial for a thoughtful gift or a little ritual of your own.

A room and linen spray lets you add scent whenever you feel like it. Mist it into the air or use it on compatible fabrics, following the product instructions and testing on a hidden area first. It’s a lovely finishing touch for a comfortable corner with our cushions and linen pillowcases.

A reed diffuser provides continuous fragrance without a flame. Adjusting the number of reeds helps you find the right intensity for your space.

My appreciation for Giocoso extends to the containers themselves. Viviane’s choice of borosilicate glass brings a simple, understated beauty to the collection.

Once a candle is finished and its jar cleaned, the container can find a new purpose at home, while the diffuser bottles can be refilled. I love that the object stays with you even after the fragrance is gone. That attention to life beyond the first use fits naturally with what I want to share at Confetti Mill.
